6 year oldFour Christmases is a jolly enough holiday comedy.
The 2008 film is about a couple played by Reese Witherspoon and Vince Vaughn who are forced to go home for the holidays. “Home” means four different houses, though, as both are the products of divorce.
Naturally, hijinks ensue and the true meaning of love and family comes to the fore. It may have been a feel-good tale, but lurking beneath the surface of this chipper holiday comedy is a Hollywood feud time has forgotten: Reese Witherspoon versus Vince Vaughn.
No one knows exactly where the bad blood began, but we do know that Witherspoon and Vaughn hated each other.

During production, a number of stories leaked to the press about the tension on set. The Daily News quoted “spies” who gossiped about how the stars’ personalities clashed.
“Vince rolls on to set in the morning looking like he just came in from a night out, while Reese will arrive early looking camera-ready,” said the source.
“Then Reese tries to force Vince into blocking out each scene and running through their lines as Vince tries to convince her that he’s an ad-libber and wants to play around and see where the scene goes.”
But it wasn’t just that they didn’t get along.
They loathed each other so much that they cut a steamy sex scene from the movie. Witherspoon apparently didn’t want to get down and dirty with Vaughn.
Months later, Vaughn would have his revenge. LaineyGossip reported at the time that Vaughn conveniently double booked himself during the press tour so that he left all the heavy PR lifting (and bad review wrangling) to Witherspoon alone.
Indeed, you’ll notice that he never even bothered to show up for the premiere.
The Hollywood Reporter has a vintage red carpet clip on YouTube where Witherspoon explains what it was like working with Vaughn.
Naturally, she doesn’t complain, but you’ll notice how she says, “Aw, he’s the greatest,” without an ounce of enthusiasm.
She may be an Oscar-winning actress, but even she can’t hide the disdain burning behind her big blue eyes.
