Anna Wintour has revealed the three things that are banned from The Met Gala every year without fail, and all because she demands it.
A-listers including Em Rata, Rita Ora, J Lo and Zendaya have flaunted spectacular creations for today’s Met Gala in New York.
However, once they get inside the iconic venue there’s one thing they won’t be seeing anywhere on their tables.
For that seated dinner, there are a few things that will absolutely never be on the menu due to Wintour’s aggressive dislike of them; Garlic, chives and onion.
“Those are three things I’m not particularly fond of. And so yes. That’s true,” she toldThe Today Show.
Appetisers like bruschetta are also said to be prohibited at the Met Gala, while it’s previous been claimed by the New York Post that parsley is also on the banned list.
Gala guests are also banned from using cell phones within the venue, unless of course they’re sneaking a selfie in the bathroom.
wintour also offered a public apology to those who were perplexed by this year’s Sleepling Beauties theme.
Inspired by J.G. Ballard’s short story of the same title, The Garden of Time is one of the more open-ended themes we’ve seen from the Gala in recent years.
“This exhibition broke my cardinal rule,” Wintour confessed. “When we came up with the title ‘Sleeping Beauties,’ it’s wonderful and poetic and romantic, but actually, it could be many, many things.”
“I said, ‘What are we gonna say to people to wear to this night?’ And he [Costume Institute curator, Andrew Bolton] said, ‘Well, what about ‘Garden of Time?’” Wintour recalled. “So, I fear that we’ve unleashed a lot of confusion out there, and for which I deeply apologise.”
“The idea of ‘Sleeping Beauties’ is taking these masterpieces from different periods, and because so many of them are very fragile, they are laid flat behind glass walls,” Wintour shared.
This year’s Met hosts included an Aussie in their mix: Zendaya, Jennifer Lopez, Bad Bunny and none other than Australian action man Chris Hemsworth.
