2 year oldTaylor Swift and British boyfriend Joe Alwyn have secretly got engaged.
The loved-up couple have no plans to formally announce their happy news but have confided in their inner circle.
A pal of Conversations With Friends actor Joe, 31, says he bought the superstar singer, 32, a ring which she wears “behind closed doors”.
The famously discreet couple, who have only been pictured on the red carpet a handful of times, have not told some members of their team.
Last night, a source close to Joe said: “Taylor and Joe are incredibly happy, and very, very in love.
“They’ve actually been engaged for a few months but have only told their inner-inner circle — basically immediate family, and trusted, very old friends. Everyone has been sworn to secrecy, too.
“Taylor has a beautiful ring but she only wears it when she’s at home — ie behind closed doors. Again, only a handful of people know details about the wedding and Taylor hasn’t even told some of her team about the engagement.
“They want their love to stay away from the cameras as much as possible. This is just for them. And if and when they do exchange vows, there most definitely won’t be anyVogue, Rolling Stone or Hello! magazines there. It will be simple and elegant — like them.”
‘Down-to-earth’
There are no specific details of the wedding yet and it is not known if the couple will officially confirm the news.
Their engagement comes five years after they first started dating and marks a big turnaround in US hitmaker Taylor’s love life.
Whereas her previous relationships with other Brits including Tom Hiddleston, Harry Styles and Calvin Harris were largely played out in the public eye, she and Joe have mainly kept their romance under wraps.
Gone, then, are the cringey snogging pics (Tom and Taylor kissing on a beach), the cheesy Instagram shots (building snowmen and swimming on a giant inflatable swan with Calvin) and the awkward pap shots (releasing doves in the Lake District with Harry).
Instead, savvy Taylor, worth $829 million, now uses her social media to promote work, charitable causes — and share photos of her cats.
Over the past 18 months, however, the Love Story singer has been more open about her boyfriend.
She confirmed Joe had co-written two songs on her Folklore album under the pseudonym William Bowery and helped pen three tracks on its follow-up, Evermore.
Refreshingly, they remain down-to-earth — apart from when in one of the two private jets reportedly owned by multi-Grammy winner Taylor.
She drives a middle-of-the-range Nissan around London as a means to go about incognito. The couple, who rent a home together in North London, have holidayed in Cornwall, enjoying beach trips to Newquay.
They have also been seen in pubs in the capital, enjoying pints and happily chatting to punters. Taylor regularly wanders around London wearing no make-up, a hoodie and trainers — and the couple consciously shun the showbiz scene.
Joe has been an absolute rock over these past couple of years.
However, they were recently photographed snogging in the sea during their latest five-star Bahamas break.
Taylor has not toured since 2019 but appeared at a one-off gig in Paris in September 2020.
In January of that year she revealed her mum Andrea had brain cancer.
She divides her time between here and the family home in Nashville to take care of her. A source added: “Joe has been an absolute rock over these past couple of years.
“He’s obviously met Taylor’s family, and Andrea loves him. Similarly, Joe’s parents adore Taylor — she actually helped decorate his little brother’s bedroom.”
Since getting together with the Bristol University graduate, she has written songs about him. London Boy’s lyrics include: “Boy, I fancy you. And now I love high tea, stories from uni, and the West End.
“You can find me in the pub, we are watching rugby with his school friends.”
Her track Gorgeous was also an ode to blond-haired, blue-eyed Joe. A spokesperson for Taylor declined to comment on engagement claims.
