7 year oldFormer Scary Spice Mel B went to police in a bid to get access to a storage unit she believes her ex, Stephen Belafonte, has hidden their sex tapes in, but came away empty-handed.
And Belafonte's lawyer says claims Belafonte and the former nanny he allegedly impregnated are hiding the tapes and personal items in the storage locker are “pure fiction”.
Mel B headed straight to Hollywood police on Tuesday after staff at Public Storage refused to give her and her lawyers access to the locker, TMZ reports.
She had arrived at the facility about 1.45pm, carrying paperwork and flanked by her legal team and security, but re-emerged 20 minutes later and was driven to a nearby police station in her lawyer's Bentley.
She returned to Public Storage at 4pm Tuesday, but walked out again a few minutes later empty-handed.
Onlookers said she appeared “furious”.
Mel B claims Belafonte is keeping sex tapes locked away in the facility, and the nanny, Lorraine Gilles, has access to it.
A court turned down her request to force Belafonte to hand over the tapes but a judge granted her access to the storage facility.
She has a restraining order against Gilles, as well as Belafonte.
Belafonte’s lawyer Grace Jamra accused Mel B of creating “high drama” as the split, initiated by Mel B amid claims Belafonte had abused her physically and mentally for a decade, becomes increasingly acrimonious.
Jamra claimed Mel B and Belafonte agreed “weeks ago” to put Spice Girls memorabilia in storage as their house was going to be sold.
She said Gilles has nothing to do with the locker. “Unfortunately, it appears that Ms Brown is creating further hysteria and seeking meaningless Court orders,” Jamra said.
The lawyer said they are waiting for Mel B’s lawyers to call and arrange a time and date for accessing of the storage locker.
“It will be clear to everyone that there are no sex tapes in the storage locker,” Jamra said.
The latest battle comes as the pair argue over custody of their five-year-old daughter, and amid news Mel B is allegedly set to offer her ex a private island and $8 million to settle the divorce.
