7 year oldThe 42-year-old star is said to have splurged her entire Spice Girls fortune through a lavish lifestyle, ending up with less than $A1,500 in her bank account this year, The Sun reports.
Now, without two pennies to rub together, the mum-of-three has asked pals to lend her cash so she can put down a deposit on a new house — as her court battle with ex Stephen Belafonte, 42, continues.
The singer has also asked Simon Cowell to guarantee he’ll sign her as a panellist for another series of America’s Got Talent.
The latest twist in Mel’s tale comes after she was exposed for splashing her earnings on extravagances like waterfalls, an armoured car, private jets, butlers, diamond rings, designer handbags and her own island.
A source said: “It’s well-known Mel’s finances are not great, but if the house deal falls through she’ll be in an even worse situation.
“She just can’t afford to lose any more cash. So she’s turned to friends in her hour of need and they’re trying their best to help.”
In the meantime Mel is trying to shift the lavish home she shared with Belafonte, which went on the market for $A12.22 million but was slashed in price by $A1.35 million within weeks.
The house is just one example of the “improvident lifestyle choices” that both Mel and Belafonte have been accused of making during their court case.
The court was recently told, by lawyer Grace Jamra who represents Belafonte: “She wiped out all her Spice Girls’ money, approximately $50 million, if not more.”
However, Mel’s earnings are great seeing as three TV show deals with America’s Got Talent, The X Factor and Lip Sync Battle have guaranteed her $A4.24 million at least.
She’s also attempting to relaunch The Spice Girls as G.E.M. with Geri Horner and Emma Bunton, and appeared in a Broadway production of Chicago.
The matters of spousal support and how their wealth will be divided are just two of the many issues being settled in Mel and her ex’s court case.
Mel claims Stephen was abusive to her on numerous occasions and has got various witnesses — including Stephen’s ex-lover, and his own brother — to support her in this.
Belafonte vehemently denies Mel’s claims of abuse, though neither party can deny the revelations about how they involved dozens of third parties in their sex life.
The American film producer and British singer have one child together, five-year-old Madison, who Belafonte has limited custody to, but he is unable to see Mel’s other children Angel, ten, and Phoenix, 18.
