8 year oldA FORMER police officer who worked for Kim Kardashian West and her husband Kanye have suggested the couple scrimped on security expenses which could have left them exposed in the dramatic robbery in Paris this week.
Steve Stanulis worked for the couple part-time until earlier this year and said they had tried to cut costs.
“She wears precious stones worth perhaps $10 million and they try to save money on security and expenses,” he said.
“Someone should tell Kim not to go on Snapchat telling everyone where you’re going and what you’re going to wear.”
The celebrity guard who was reportedly sacked for getting too friendly with his client said he believes speculation it was an “inside job”.
“It was totally an inside job, guys — either someone from their camp or someone from the hotel,” he told KIIS FM.
“The way they do things Kim and Kanye, there was bound for something to happen. I didn’t think it was going to be this extensive, but definitely knew something was going to happen,” he said.
The guard who has also worked for Alanis Morissette and Leonardo DiCaprio said their relaxed attitude to security could also have put the famous couple in danger.
“All they had to do was hire two off-duty police officers to stay at the door which would have deterred the whole thing,” he said.
“She has 50 million followers, that’s not 50 million Kim Kardashian fans. There’s fans, there’s haters, there’s envious people that are criminals that are looking for the perfect opportunity. Fifteen minutes earlier she went on Snapchat and said ‘Hey guys look at my jewellery’ so it was a perfect opportunity on every level to get robbed.”
Police are continuing to scour CCTV images of the apartment following the raid that saw the armed men take off on bikes with $14 million worth of gems.
Kardashian West was bound with a gun to her temple and forced to wait in the bathtub while the men posing as police ransacked the apartment shouting that they wanted her “ring”.
While the reality star has received plenty of support, others have criticised her showy social media presence for tempting thieves.
Chanel designer Karl Lagerfeld said “(She is) too public, too public — we have to see in what time we live. You cannot display your wealth then be surprised that some people want to share it,”
“I don’t understand why (Kardashian) was in a hotel with no security and things like this. If you are that famous and you put all your jewellery on the net you go to hotels where nobody can come near to the room.”
It comes after Paris Police spokeswoman Johanna Primevert said it was not a typical attack.
“It was really the celebrity who was targeted, with possessions that had been seen and noticed via social media, and it was these goods that the attackers targeted,” she said.
Yesterday, pictures outside the couple’s New York accommodation showed heavy security as friends arrived to visit the star.
Kanye West has cancelled the remainder of his current tour after the “family emergency”.
