MELANIA Trump has said she wants to stay in New York so her son Barron can finish his final year at a prestigious primary school. Amid that news come speculation that Donald Trump’s daughter, Ivanka, may step into the role of first lady, at least for the first year of her father’s presidency.

Mr Trump has already showed that he is going to be an unorthox president, indicating that he wants to remain as a producer on Celebrity Apprentice and regularly using his personal Twitter handle to blast out his thoughts on social media.

So it is not outside the rhelms of possibility that his well-liked daughter, Ivanka, could be given some type of advising role in the administration.

Heat Street reports that Ivanka and her husband Jared Kushner have been house hunting in Washington DC. Mr Kushner is expected to have a key role in the Trump White House.

However, it hasn’t just been Mr Kushner that has been attending key meetings.

Ms Trump has been in the room when her dad has met with people from Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe to Al Gore.

In a 60 Minutes interview in the US, Ms Trump, who was viewed favourably during the election campaign, said she didn’t want a formal job in her father’s administration.

“I’m going to be a daughter,” she said. “But I’ve said throughout the campaign that I am very passionate about certain issues. And that I want to fight for them. So, you know there are a lot of things that I feel deeply, strongly about. But not in a formal administrative capacity.”

The last President to move into the White House without a first lady was Grover Cleveland, who was a bachelor until his marriage in 1886.
