6 year oldIT costs a lot to look this royal. She broke protocol by wearing a ‘messy’ bun, seems to only wear designer stilettos, and has a coat for every occasion.
Royal-to-be Meghan Markle, 36, has become hugely influential on the style scene ... and has the designer wardrobe to prove it.
Much like her soon-to-be sister-in-law the Duchess of Cambridge, what Markle wears sells out — dubbed the “Meghan effect”. But who is paying for Markle’s pricey royal wardrobe?
It’s not like the former Suits star — who is said to be worth $7 million — is on a budget. Four of her most recent outfits had a collective price tag of more than $A17,000.
An analysis by News Corp Australia has revealed just how much Markle’s royal wardrobe adds up to.
Last week, Markle wore a Mackage coat ($A972), Victoria Beckham knit ($A1200), a Greta Constantine skirt (price not specified online though it was sold out) and a pair of Jimmy Choo heels ($A810), teamed with a bag by Charlotte Elizabeth ($320), on a visit to Belfast.
The final bill? More than $3302.
And that’s not even the most pricey ensemble she’s worn lately.
Markle sported an Amanda Wakeley coat ($A1642) and dress ($A908) to attend her first official engagement with the Queen earlier this month — a service at Westminster Abbey.
She teamed the regal look with a Mulberry bag ($A1009), Manolo Blahnik heels ($A1147) and custom-made Stephen Jones hat (price not released).
All up? It was a $A4706 outfit.
On a visit to Birmingham on International Women’s Day, Markle turned heads in yet another coat — this time, by J Crew ($A386).
She wore it over an ALLSAINTS knit ($A308), Alexander Wang trousers ($A505), and another pair of Manolos ($A810).
But the most expensive item in that ensemble was an Altuzarra bag, worth $A2066, and all adding up to $A4075.
One of the most expensive pieces Markle has worn recently was a Burberry coat ($A3751), on her trip to Scotland with Harry in February.
She teamed it with a black knit (designer not specified), Veronica Beard pants ($A511) and a Strathberry bag ($A706), which looked like bargains by comparison.
The total cost: $A4968.
Despite close relationships with designers (Victoria Beckham and Alexander McQueen among them), the royals aren’t allowed to accept gifts and have to pay for their own clothing from their stipend.
Vogue reports that Markle is currently paying for her own very expensive outfits because she is not yet officially a member of the royal family. And she may even be bankrolling the cost of her own wedding dress, which has a rumoured price tag of $400,000.
Now that dress will surely be her most expensive outfit yet.
