A source told the publication Valderrama had been very “shocked” to hear of Lovato’s overdose on Tuesday.
Friends of Lovato also told The Sun she has been on a downward spiral since splitting from Valderrama two years ago.
“She seemed OK with the breakup at first, but she missed him terribly — far more than she thought she would and she has not found anything even close to what they had since then,” an insider revealed.
“For two years she has been single and lonely and she really went back to her old negative ways.”
According toTMZ, Lovato had been hosting a raucous all-night party at her home when she became unwell and was treated with Narcan, a drug used to reverse the effects of overdoses.
“She had two friends with her at her house that called 911. They were hysterical when paramedics arrived and Demi was unconscious,” a source told US Weekly.“But the friends acted very quickly and saved her life.”
Lovato has been open about her battles with substance abuse issues and eating disorders.
In March 2018, the star announced she was celebrating six years of sobriety. However, just four months later, Lovato revealed that she had relapsed in a song called Sober.
The troubled singer, 25, is now “awake and responsive” and is said to be in a stable condition, with her family pleading for privacy as she recovers.
