6 year oldDemi Lovato’s assistant feared the pop star had died when she came across her during her apparent drug overdose last week, according to a new report.
The assistant, who was not identified, yelled “She’s dead, she’s dead!” upon seeing Lovato, TMZreported, citing a source.
The “Confident” singer’s bodyguard then reportedly darted into her room and gave first-aid to Lovato, who did not seem to be breathing, before the paramedics made it to the scene.
Lovato, 25, was hospitalized last Tuesday at the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, with TMZ reporting emergency responders needed to use Narcan — a substance often used to treat an opioid overdose — on the singer.
The pop star’s rep confirmed last week that she was “awake and with her family,” but said some of the information out there about her client was inaccurate and urged people not to speculate.
Lovato is expected to be cleared to leave the hospital this week, according to Entertainment Tonight.
The singer has long been open about her past issues with substance abuse. She celebrated six years of sobriety in March, but appeared to reveal she’d relapsed in a song, “Sober,” released in June. Lovato previously went to rehab when she was 18.
Officials released audio from the 911 call from Lovato’s home last week. A woman can be heard in the recording asking for quick assistance and requesting that the responders don’t use their sirens.
