8 year oldThe comedian went as far as to suggest Degeneres kicked her out of the backstage dressing room at the Emmys.
“I can’t prove it,” Griffin said. “I heard she got me kicked out.”
The 56-year-old also claims DeGeneres “banned” her from her daytime talk show in 2006. Griffin explained she wished there was more of a camaraderie between female comics.
“My issue with Ellen is simple,” she said. “You know, the guys in comedy are so good about sticking together. I feel sad that women don’t support each other the way the guys do. Joan [Rivers] and I would talk about this all the time. Patriarchy pits us against each other.”
Griffin hinted that the younger generation of female comics is changing for the better.
“You look at the younger women like Amy Schumer and Lena Dunham, they’ve got production companies, and they’re getting stuff done.”
It’s not the first surprising celebrity story Griffin has shared recently.
Earlier this month, she took aim at Britney Spears.
“I actually appeared in her Vegas show,” she continued.
“She has someone every night come up, and they put a harness on me, and I was her sex slave for a song that she sings called Freakshow … I’ve known her since she was 16 — so I thought, at the end, we’re onstage, it’s a triumphant moment for really both of us. And then I thought, she’s going to want to say, ‘Good to see you again,’ and I say, ‘Brit, it’s so great to see you.’”
It didn’t go down that way.
“She didn’t know who I was,” Griffin deadpanned.
“Then her gay backup dancer from heaven said, ‘Kathy Griffin.’ And she said, ‘Give it up for Kathy, y’all!’ And that’s all I ask, Britney.”
