This Academy Award winner has resurfaced looking unrecognisable as he hit the red carpet for the season two premiere of his hit series.
Billy Bob Thornton has resurfaced looking almost unrecognisable as he hit the red carpet in the UK for the premiere of Landman Season 2, the gritty Paramount+ drama that’s fast becoming Taylor Sheridan’s next big franchise.
The 70-year-old star arrived in a low-slung grey beanie layered under a red fedora, flashing a cheeky grin as he posed for cameras. He also appeared to be wearing a silver hoop earring through a hole in the beanie.
The new look is a far cry from his Hollywood red-carpet appearances of the early 2000s, leaving fans doing a double-take.
But it’s not the first time he’s debuted the double hat look. Thornton confused viewers late last year when he appeared on BBC chat show The One Show alongside co-star Jon Hamm to promote the series, sporting a black beanie and tilted grey fedora, a large silver hoop in his earring and a number of chain necklaces.
Since then, he’s replicated the look a number of times, including on several red carpets promoting season 2.
Landman is the latest drama from writer-creator Taylor Sheridan (of Yellowstone fame), set deep in the wild, high-stakes world of West Texas oil.
The Bad Santa star leads the series as Tommy Norris, an oil company crisis manager navigating the murky world of land rights, power struggles, environmental pressure and the politics of shale oil.
Season two ups the stakes, with screen legend Sam Elliott joining the cast as Tommy’s estranged father, alongside fellow new addition Andy Garcia.
The pair join returning series stars Demi Moore, Jon Hamm and Ali Larter for the new season.
The cast reunited this week for the UK premiere — their latest press stop after a Texas screening earlier in the month.
Thornton’s career arc is quietly remarkable, from indie breakout to mainstream success to now a “lead man” in a prestige streaming series at age 70.
“When I think of my life, there have been so many lives … this one was a year and a half, this one was three years, this one was two years,” he reflected in an Esquire profile.
“This part is going to be you if you were a landman,” referring to Sheridan’s pitch for the show.
He also spoke to Entertainment Weekly on Sam Elliot’s recent casting.
“I can only say this: I’ve known Sam longer than anybody in the cast … he’s been a mentor and a friend and just a hero of mine always.”
And, has spoken on his longstanding friendship with Demi Moore, who is also in the hit series.
“Demi and I have known each other for a long time … we just have kind of an unspoken language. Anytime anything weird happens on the set or something breaks or whatever … we just look at each other and it’s like … we know what it means,” he told People.
If the reaction to his latest appearance is anything to go by, Billy Bob Thornton isn’t just back, he’s doing some of the most compelling work of his career.
