Aside f-rom the obvious mark Prince has left on music and entertainment as a whole, The Purple One is also a big part of Coachella history, namely with his performance of Radiohead’s “Creep” in 2008. Coachella paid tribute to Prince by showing that performance, lighting their palm trees to look purple, and flashed the message, “F-rom now on This is Prince’s House” on a giant screen.

The performers also worked tributes into their sets, including LCD Soundsystem, who performed Prince’s 1981 track “Controversy.” Sufjan Stevens and Gallant also teamed up for a cover of “Purple Rain.” Mavis Staples took some time to recount the first time she met Prince, saying she totally failed to keep her cool: “”The first time I met Prince, he came to the Shrine Auditorium — my family was having a concert… [My sisters] were saying, ‘He’s so cool! He’s so cute! He’s so good-looking!’ I say, ‘I’m gonna play it cool.’ He came up, and I [screamed] uncontrollably.”
