8 year old“It’s so transparent. He’s doing all he can to discredit Amber by getting others to go on the record,” the friend told The New York Post, after Depp’s ex-partner, daughter and two of his showbiz pals publicly expressed their vehement support for him.
“It’s shocking that he would do this, when there are actual witnesses and photos to prove his abuse towards Amber,” the source said.
Depp, 52, had been abusing Heard “for some time,” the source alleged, with the couple having engaged in three big blowouts in the past six months.
During a fight in December, Heard “thought she was going to die,” the pal claimed.
“She didn’t leave him earlier, because, as with most domestic-violence cases, these things start small — you believe the person will change. They’ll cry and plead and say this is the last time,” the friend said.
Heard’s lawyers have also accused Depp’s team of “viciously attacking Amber’s c-haracter” through media reports and anonymous sources.
HEARD’S LEGAL TEAM HITS BACK
Depp could now be quizzed by cops after Heard filed a statement with the Los Angeles Police Department on Tuesday, days after first declining to give a statement after Saturday night’s alleged attack.
Heard’s legal team, Samantha F Spector and Joseph P Koenig, said in a new statement, “As the result of Amber’s decision to decline giving an initial statement to the LAPD, her silence has been used against her by Johnny’s team. Amber did not provide a statement to the LAPD in an attempt to protect her privacy and Johnny’s career.
“Johnny’s team has forced Amber to give a statement to the LAPD to set the record straight as to the true facts, as she cannot continue to leave herself open to the vicious false and malicious allegations that have infected the media. Amber has suffered through years of physical and psychological abuse at the hands of Johnny.
“In domestic violence cases, it is not unusual for the perpetrator’s playbook to include miscasting the victim as the villain. In reality, Amber acted no differently than many victims of domestic violence, who think first of the harm that might come to the abuser, rather than the abuse they have already suffered. Amber can no longer endure the relentless attacks and outright lies launched against her c-haracter in the Court of Public Opinion since the tragic events of May 21st.
“With her statement Amber hopes to give the LAPD the opportunity to conduct an accurate and complete investigation into the events of that evening and before. If that occurs, and the truth is revealed, there is no doubt that Amber’s claims will be substantiated beyond any doubt, and hopefully Johnny will get the help that he so desperately needs.”
Heard’s legal team continued that she first sought to keep the matter private, but had been forced to go public due to attacks on her c-haracter.
The statement continued, “F-rom the beginning it has been Amber’s desire to keep this matter as private as possible, even though LAPD officers responded to a 911 call made by a third party.
“The LAPD officers viewed not only the disarray that Johnny had caused in the apartment but also the physical injuries to Amber’s face. We filed the Petition for Dissolution of Marriage at the very end of the day on Monday May 23rd and we did not serve Johnny with the Petition at the premiere of Alice Through the Looking Glass that evening. We sent a letter to Johnny’s counsel team the next morning making it clear we wanted to keep this matter out of the media. We then held off requesting a domestic violence restraining order as we knew that Johnny was out of the country.
“We took the high road. Unfortunately, Johnny’s team immediately went to the press and began viciously attacking Amber’s c-haracter. Amber is simply a victim of domestic violence, and none of her actions are motivated by money. Amber is a brave and financially independent woman who is showing the courage of her convictions by doing the right thing against Johnny’s relentless army of lawyers and surrogates.
“The Family Law Court is not going to be influenced by misinformation placed in the social media based on anonymous sources. Amber is the victim. Amber is a hero.”
DEPP’S FRIENDS AND FAMILY DEFEND HIM
Comedian Doug Stanhope penned a 965-word column for the site The Wrapover the weekend that defended the Pirates of the Caribbean actor, saying Depp warned him that Heard was going to drag his name through the mud days before she filed court papers accusing him of throwing an iPhone at her face.
The alleged abuse occurred just after Stanhope and Depp talked.
“We assumed initially that his dour mood was because of his mother’s death the day before,’’ Stanhope wrote about his meet-up with Depp last Saturday.
“But he opened up in the most vulnerable of ways that it was not only his mother, but that Amber was now going to leave him, threatening to lie about him publicly in any and every possible duplicitous way if he didn’t agree to her terms,” he continued.
“Blackmail is what I would imagine other people might put it, including the manner in which he is now being vilified.”
On Monday, director Terry Gilliam tweeted out Stanhope’s piece, saying, “Like many of Johnny Depp’s friends, I’m discovering that Amber is a better actress than I thought.”
But Heard’s pal insisted that Stanhope’s column was a “staged move.”
“We’ve never heard of this ‘friend’ before,” the source said. “Depp has no choice but to discredit her to save his career.”
Peter Sample, a lawyer for Heard, issued a statement to The Wrap on Monday, saying Stanhope’s allegations are “absolutely and unequivocally false.
“[The letter] has no basis in reality and is nothing but the typical celebrity muckraking for profit,” he said.
TMZ reported Depp’s two security guards, Jerry Judge and Sean Bett, were standing at the front door to the couple’s unit when the alleged iPhone hurling incident went down.
Sources say the guards responded to Heard’s screams but saw her standing nearly six metres away f-rom him, with her in the lounge room and Depp in the kitchen.
The site reported: “We’re told according to Johnny, both he and Amber knew the guards were in the entryway and the scream was a badly executed attempted setup.”
The guards, who are expected to testify next month during the restraining order trial, also claim Heard was the one who had a bad temper and used to attack Depp.
Heard, 30, claimed in court papers that she endured verbal and physical abuse throughout their relationship. Depp has denied the allegations through his lawyers.
Sources told The Sun newspaper that Depp’s children, Jack and Lily-Rose, didn’t want Heard to be at their dying grandmother’s deathbed — and the couple got into an argument over it last Saturday, which led to the actor hurling Heard’s iPhone at her.
Depp’s mum, Betty Sue Palmer, died two days before the pair officially separated.
