A California rapper was shot dead while hosting a beauty salon’s grand opening – having repeatedly promoted her appearance online.
Tan DaGod – real name Alliauna Green – advertised her meet-and-greet at Glamor Beauty Supply in Oakland a few days before turning up on Saturday, when she also shared a video of herself meeting fans inside the salon at the event.
She was then gunned down around 5pm on Saturday, leaving some of the fans who turned up to greet her racing to safety to neighbouring stores, witnesses told San Francisco Bay Area’s local news station KRON.
“I heard some shooting I thought it was part of their music,” one worker at a restaurant across the street told the outlet.
DaGod – known locally for her rap music – was rushed to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
A second person was also shot, but that unidentified victim is expected to recover.
Ernest “Unc” Holloway, a longtime friend of the rapper who worked with her on a music video, paid tribute in an interview with local station NBC Bay Area.
“She was fiery like she had, she had a different spirit. You know I’m saying? When she walked in the party got started,” he said.
“She was full of energy for the life and for the love, you know? She was very passionate about her career.
The motivation behind the shooting remains unknown, and the gunman is still at large.
A nearby restaurant worker described the suspect as a male wearing a hooded sweatshirt.
Tributes began to pile up outside the shop within hours of the shooting. Flowers were laid across the sidewalk out front spelling out her name, while people were seen holding each other and sobbing.
