DONALD Trump said he hopes Hillary Clinton “gets well soon” — and pledged to release the results of a check-up he underwent last week, ensuring the health and wellness of the presidential candidates will continue to dominate the presidential race.

According to the New York Post, Trump’s remarks, which were made overnight in a phone interview on Fox News’ Fox & Friends, comes less than 24 hours after Clinton’s early exit from a September 11 memorial service and collapse as she entered her Secret Service vehicle.

The “medical episode” occurred on September 11, a day both candidates had pledged to cease campaigning in honour of the largest terror attack in American history.

“I hope she gets well soon,” Trump said in the interview. “Something’s going on. I just hope she gets well and gets back on the trail.”

It comes as Clinton was forced to cancel a string of events in California as she battles pneumonia.

Trump said the results of his own physical will be made soon

Trump has previously made an issue of Clinton’s health. The Republican presidential candidate has claimed the commander in chief needs “physical mental strength and stamina” — and that Clinton “doesn’t have the strength or the stamina to make America great again”.

The Republican National Committee has not publicly commented on Clinton’s health. But the Democrats have.

“I am glad to learn that Secretary Clinton is already feeling better and I wish her a speedy recovery,” said Democratic National Committee interim chair Donna Brazile in a statement Sunday night. “I look forward to seeing her back out on the campaign trail and continuing on the path to victory.”

Jennifer Granholm, the former governor of Michigan and the current co-chair of Clinton’s transition team, suggested on Twitter that criticism of the first serious female presidential candidate is sexist.

“To press lamenting @HillaryClinton’s health/transparency: ‘powering through’ illness is what women do: Stoically, every. single. day,” she said.

Over the weekend, Clinton’s doctor released a note saying the Democratic candidate has “pneumonia.”

“Secretary Clinton has been experiencing a cough related to allergies. On Friday, during follow up evaluation of her prolonged cough, she was diagnosed with pneumonia,” Dr. Lisa R. Bardack, Clinton’s personal physician, said. “She was put on antibiotics, and advised to rest and modify her schedule. While at this morning’s event, she became overheated and dehydrated. I have just examined her and she is now rehydrated and recovering nicely.”
