This article is more than
8 year oldIt’s safe to say that 2016 should probably be renamed Z016 because Zayn Malik has been k-i-l-l-i-n-g it this year. The former One Direction member proved that he was a viable solo artist with his brilliant debut album Mind of Mine, while his single “Pillow Talk,” which features Gigi Hadid in the video, has sold over 1.2 million copies in the U.S. alone!
Basically, #Z016 is well and truly alive.
We’re also super proud of Zayn for being able to open up about his mental health struggles and for doing his solo career on his terms, with Gigi sharing how she supported him through a panic attack that forced Zayn to cancel a live show in London. The definition of #RelationshipGoals, right?
It seems that the emancipation of Zayn has also lead the Bradford-born singer the freedom to experiment with different artists, and recently he joined forces with UK duo Snakehips on the insanely catchy bop “Cruel.”
Previously, Snakehips had worked with the likes of Tinashe and Chance the Rapper on the stunning “All My Friends,” an ode to 20-something melancholia and loneliness.
Now Zayn and Snakehips have shared the video for “Cruel” and it’s a kaleidoscopic dreamscape.
How obsessed with this song are you? If you’re anything like us, the answer will be A LOT.
We’re really loving the different colors in the video, too. Neon is totally Zayn’s color, and he looks *heart eyes emoji* in the video.
Snakehips aren’t the only people that Zayn has been working with. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, alt-pop star and activist M.I.A. stated that her and the former boybander had worked on a song together via WhatsApp.
“We just basically did it while I was [in India], because I’ve been here for a week-and-a-half. We’ve just been going back and forth on, you know, WhatsApp,” she said.
OMG – a Zayn x M.I.A. collaboration sounds pretty rad to us.
