But she has passed up the offer because she does not believe her music is currently the right fit.
“I’m not doing the Super Bowl. Come on, that show is not really about music and I don’t dance or anything like that,” she said at her gig at the LA Staples Centre.
“But they were very kind and they did ask me but I did say no.”
An NFL source confirmed Adele had been on the shortlist for the halftime show, but stressed no formal offer had been made.
However, the singer has not ruled out following in the footsteps of Prince, Michael Jackson and Beyonce by performing at the NFL show one day.
The ballad-loving star has even revealed that her fourth album — the follow-up to last year’s record-breaking 25 — will be a dance album.
“But maybe next time with my next album because I’m going to a dance album next time, so maybe I’ll do it then,” she said.
The Super Bowl halftime show is one of the world’s most-watched events.
In February 115 million US viewers tuned in to watch Coldplay, Beyonce and Bruno Mars unite for a rendition of Uptown Funk at San Francisco’s Levi Stadium.
