A CINEMA full of kids and parents waiting to watch Finding Dory were shocked when a trailer for an R-rated movie played beforehand.

The vice president of the theatre chain in the US was forced to apologise after the family friendly audience was exposed to the trailer for Seth Rogen’s upcoming film,Sausage Party.

The animated film, which is rated R in the US, follows a sausage who tries to discover what really happens to products after they are purchased at the supermarket.

“Playing that trailer was a one-time honest mistake by a theatre manager moving screens around in effort to accommodate several large last minute groups wanting to see Dory,” Walter Eichinger from the Brenden Theatre Corporation said to Bay Area News & Talk.

“In the rush, one hardworking manager clicked the wrong movie. It was caught soon but not until that trailer was played. We regret it, apologise for it and we are not happy that it happened. We fully realise that this trailer is not appropriate for Doryand we would never schedule something like that.”

Seth Rogen, who co-wrote and stars in Sausage Partytweeted out a news story about the movie mix-up to his 4.1 million followers and said, “This made my day”.

Sausage Party will be released in Australia on August 11
