8 year oldStormtroopers in the Empire are an evolution of the Republic clone troopers. Cre-ated as perfect copies of Jango Fett, clone troopers carried out the orders of the Republic, and later, the Empire. Due to their rapid age advancement, clone troopers were eventually phased out and replaced with Imperial Stormtroopers. Unlike the clones before them, the Empire's Stormtrooper members were recruited f-rom around the galaxy and subjected to a brutal training and indoctrination process.
After its eventual collapse following the Battle of Endor, the shards of a broken Empire retreated to the Unknown Regions of the galaxy. F-rom there, the ideals of the Empire lived on, eventually becoming the First Order.
First Order Stormtroopers differed f-rom their Imperial predecessors in many ways. Their armor and weaponry changed somewhat with the times and unique situation of the First Order, but ultimately still resembled its clone trooper roots. The most marked change for the First Order Stormtroopers over the Empire was a more strict and standardized training regiment, which produced a more lethal and ruthless soldier than those who served the Empire.
The canonical Stormtrooper list is fairly robust, but it pales in comparison to the enormity that is the Star Wars Legends Stormtrooper list. If you're unfamiliar, Star Wars Legends refers to works built on the fiction of Star Wars, but ones that aren't part of the official lore. Some examples include the blood-red variant of the Magma Trooper, as well as most (but not all) appearances of Aquatic Stormtroopers.
