8 year old“Given the brevity of this marriage and the most recent and tragic loss of his mother, Johnny will not respond to any of the salacious false stories, gossip, misinformation and lies about his personal life. Hopefully the dissolution of this short marriage will be resolved quickly,” a rep for Depp said in a statement to People magazine.
TMZ is reporting that actress and model Heard, 30, filed her divorce petition on Monday citing “irreconcilable differences” — just three days after Depp’s mother died.
Heard and Depp, 52, married in February of 2015 at a private civil ceremony at their home in Los Angeles.
TMZ reports that Heard is asking for spousal support but Depp has filed his responsethrough his lawyer, Laura Wasser, and has asked the judge to reject Heard’s claim.
According to TMZ, the couple did not sign a prenuptial agreement when they got married.
Depp’s fortune is estimated to be worth $A555 million which includes his private Caribbean island called Little Hall’s Pond Cay.
The island has six beaches, with Depp telling Vanity Fair in 2009: “I don’t think I’d ever seen any place so pure and beautiful. You can feel your pulse rate d-rop about 20 beats. It’s instant freedom.”
Heard and Depp reportedly first met in 2009, while they were both working on the film The Rum Diary. They began dating in 2012, around the time Depp ended his decade-long relationship with French actress Vanessa Paradis.
The pair have frequently appeared in Australian news ever since an incident last year when they smuggled their Yorkshire terriers, Pistol and Boo, into Australia. No word yet on who’ll get custody of the famous pooches.
Asked on his thoughts about Barnaby Joyce, who led the fight to prosecute the Hollywood pair, Depp said on a talk show this week: “He looks somehow inbred with a tomato.”
“It’s not a criticism. I was a little worried. He just might explode,” he said.
Joyce led the c-harge for the pair to film a bizarre apology video, in which they declared Australia a ‘wonderful island’ which ‘has to be protected’.
Asked this morning for a reaction to the news, Joyce told reporters he “will never revel in is any relationship breakdown, no matter what animosity ... between Mr Depp and myself.”
Prior to their relationship, Heard came out as bisexual at a GLAAD event in 2010, stating at the time that “I don’t label myself one way or another — I have had successful relationships with men and now a woman. I love who I love; it’s the person that matters.”
Depp is on the promotional trail this week as his latest movie, Alice Through The Looking Glass, is released in US cinemas tomorrow. It’s unclear at this stage whether this news will affect his promotional commitments for the film.
This was the first marriage for Heard and the second for Depp, who was previously married to Lori Anne Allison, a make-up artist, f-rom 1983 until 1985. He was later engaged to actresses Jennifer Grey and Sherilyn Fenn in the late 1980s before proposing in 1990 to his Edward Scissorhands co-star Winona Ryder, infamously getting a ‘WINONA FOREVER’ tattoo before the pair broke off their relationship.
