The nation’s top court upheld the impeachment of Yoon Suk Yeol, clearing the way for the election of a new president. Demonstrators erupted in cheers.

Yoon Suk Yeol’s political career may be over, but his troubles are not.

Mr. Yoon is fighting criminal charges of leading an insurrection over his short-lived imposition of martial law on Dec. 3. A separate trial on those charges began in February and will not be directly affected by the Constitutional Court’s ruling that upheld his impeachment on Friday.
