Billie Eilish has found herself in hot water after making a bizarre remark about parents who send their children to school.

The Grammy winner has sparked debate after she criticised parents who chose to send their children to traditional schools rather than home schooling them.

Eilish was raised at home and both herself and her producer brother, Finneas, were taught by their parents at home and have never attended a traditional school.

“I’ve never been to school. I grew up homeschooled, stayed homeschooled, never was not homeschooled. The thing is, I still learned everything, you know? But I learned it in life,” she told Pitchfork in a resurfaced 2019 interview.

The superstar revealed that her mother immersed teaching into their regular daily activities which helped them to apply theories to real life situations.

“Seeing how many halves are gonna make this amount (cooking) ... If we double this recipe, how many more do we have to put in this batch right here?” she explained.

The pop star then criticised conventional schooling and parents who opt to send their children to traditional educational institutions.

“I mean, there’s a lot of ways to do it. I think some people do it the wrong way, which just makes your life horrible and miserable and boring,” she shared.

“And that’s mainly because parents are lazy as f*** – that’s why they send their kids to school in the first place: ‘I don’t want to teach you, b**ch’.”

Fans rushed to social media to criticise the star’s bizarre take, with many calling her “out of touch” for her views on education.

“This is an asinine, completely out of touch thing to say. IMO, parents who think they have more to offer their kids intellectually than the dozens of professional educators who they would learn from in school are completely delusional,” insisted one.

“Gotta love out of touch rich chick shaming the working poor for having to work instead of educate our children,” complained another.

A third hit back at the star, saying: “It’s like she forgets most parents have to work a s**tload of hours just to provide for their families”.

“She has mentioned that she wants to have kids in the future. So will she step down from her career to homeschool her kids?” questioned a fourth fan.

While another angry fan added: “So if parents are supposed to teach their homeschooled kids everything, when do they have time to go to work and provide for the household? This only works if you’re highly privileged already!”

This isn’t the first time Eilish has found herself at the centre of backlash after making remarks that have rubbed the internet the wrong way.

The longtime animal rights activist, who has been a vegan since she was 12, said in an interview for ELLE magazine earlier this year that it’s not possible to “love animals” and also “eat meat.”

She was asked: “What’s one hill you’d die on?”

The 24-year-old then replied: “Ya’ll ain’t gonna like me for this one... Eating meat is inherently wrong. Two things cannot coincide: ‘I love all animals so much and I eat meat.’ Sorry - you could eat meat, go for it, you could love animals, but you can’t do both.”
