YOU MAY have noticed Hillary Clinton parted from her usual colour palette of red, white and blue during her concession speech.

The Democratic presidential nominee instead wore a bright purple with a silk grey wool blouse.

Her husband, Bill Clinton, stood beside her wearing a suit with a purple tie.

There are reports Ms Clinton’s campaign outfits were the work of Vogue’s famous editor, Anna Wintour.

According to the fashion magazine, there were two reasons Ms Clinton broke away from her usual colour palette.

For one, the rarity of purple makes it a symbol of nobility, wealth and power. It’s associated with magic, the supernatural and spirituality.

“It doesn’t get any classier,” the magazine stated.

But secondly, it’s “considered a colour of mourning”. Vogue states the colour purple is known for its significance to the Suffragette movement, and represents dignity.

Obviously, it’s also the colour you get when you combine blue (Democrats) and red (Republicans).Ms Clinton graciously accepted defeat during her speech, thanking everybody who voted for her.

“Last night, I congratulated Donald Trump and offered to work with him on behalf of our country. I hope that he will be a successful president for all Americans,” she began.

“This is not the outcome that we wanted and we worked so hard for, and I am sorry that we did not win this election for the values we hold and the vision that we share for our country.

“But I feel pride and gratitude for this wonderful campaign that we built together. This vast, diverse, creative, unruly, energised campaign. You represent the best of America and being your candidate has been one of the greatest honours of my life.”

She promised a woman would one day successfully win the top job.

“I know we have still not shattered that highest and hardest glass ceiling, but some day, someone will, and hopefully sooner than we might think right now,” she said.

“And to all the little girls who are watching this, never doubt that you are valuable and powerful and deserving of every chance and opportunity in the world to pursue and achieve your own dreams.”
