A new doco will examine one of the most high-profile divorce cases in Hollywood history between Kanye West and Kim Kardashian.

The divorce of Kanye West and Kim Kardashian is one of the most high-profile divorce cases in Hollywood history.

The couple called it quits in 2021 after seven years of marriage, four children and having amassed a combined $2.7 billion fortune.

The split made headlines worldwide and became a messy affair, with West continuously airing the couple’s dirty laundry on social media, while Kardashian tried to keep a dignified silence.

Now the pair’s split is being examined in a new HBO Max documentary titled Kim Vs Kanye: The Divorce, with the streaming company given exclusive access to never-before-shared details of the couple’s bitter split.

“This is the inside story of a two-year legal battle,” reads an onscreen graphic in the trailer released today on BINGE

In the he-said, she-said two-part special, which airs locally on BINGE on September 21, both sides of the story will be told. Episode 1 will tell West’s perspective, while Episode 2 will detail Kardashian’s side.

Although neither West or Kardashian – who are described as “America’s royal family” – speak in the special, their legal teams that fought the case and other “pivotal figures” provide commentary on their tumultuous union.

“It was the biggest news story on the planet,” one figure says in the trailer, with another adding: “What we really learned in this case was that this was a toxic relationship.”

One legal counsel tells the camera of Kardashian: “She had to walk through the fire so she could be free.”

Given he was a much bigger star when they married in 2014, it seems West may have underestimated his estranged wife and her connections in Hollywood.

“Kanye may be a rich and powerful artist, but he has never dealt with something as powerful as the Kardashian legal machine,” another key figure said in the trailer.

Another added that “over the course of this divorce, Kanye seemed to run through 10 lawyers, maybe more” because “this was not a guy who was going to take the end of his marriage lying down”.

West and Kardashian were married in 2014 at the 16th century Forte di Belvedere in Florence, Italy.

Cracks started to show in their marriage in 2018 when West began aligning himself with then US President Donald Trump, infamously wearing the former businessman’s red Make America Great Again hat in public outings.
