Michael Strahan says he doesn't miss ‘Live!’

June 23, 2016 at 12:09

“Live!” is dead to Michael Strahan.

I really haven’t missed it,” Strahan told Chelsea Handler Wednesday in his first interview since his abrupt exit from “Live! with Kelly and Michael” last month.

The former NFL star left the ABC morning chatfest after four years of co-hosting, announcing he would join “Good Morning America” full time in the fall. Ripa threw a “fit” after hearing news of Strahan’s departure shortly before the rest of the world, insiders told the Daily News at the time.

“I really haven’t had a chance to watch (‘Live’),” Strahan said in an upcoming episode for Handler’s Netflix show, “Chelsea.” “But I think I’ve been working so hard for the last seven or eight years since I retired from football, that it’s been a relief.”

Strahan said he’s been traveling and spending more time with his kids post “Live!”

Don’t get me wrong. I loved it. When you get a break, sometimes you kind of go, ‘Wow, I kind of needed it.’ I needed a break,” he said.

The 44-year-old talk show host had a shockingly drama-free goodbye from the show in May after a weeks-long national nightmare laden with awkward mentions of Ripa’s contract negotiations, and dropped allusions to his painful divorces.
The show has gone on for Ripa, who is playing bachelorette in search of a new TV husband. So far, a slew of potential new co-hosts have filled in including Anderson Cooper, Andy Cohen and Jimmy Kimmel.

The “Chelsea” episode will be streamed Friday on Netflix.
