Did The Simpsons predict Gaga’s Super Bowl show?

That adage has been proven right time and time again in recent years, with the iconic animated sitcom creepily predicting everything from the rise of President Trump to the creation of popular game Farmville.

Now, some fans are suggesting a 2012 episode of the show, in which Lady Gaga performs for the residents of Springfield, predicted several elements of the pop star’s mammoth Super Bowl show this week.

In the episode “Lisa Goes Gaga”, the singer serenades Springfield’s ‘little monsters’ with a surprise show that looks eerily similar to yesterday’s spectacle.

Gaga on wires, flying above the crowd? Check. Gaga at the piano? Check. An affirming, inclusive, ‘let’s all love one another’ message? Check.

Of course, Gaga herself provided her voice for the episode, so it might less be a case of “Simpsons predicting the future” as it is “Simpsons nailing a guest artist’s performance style”.

But look, at least the Simpsons fans claiming her halftime victory as a win for them make slightly more sense than those who claim she spent her entire performance ripping off SpongeBob SquarePants.

Elsewhere in the Super Bowl wash-up, it seems Gaga’s show might just have been too good to be true, with video emerging that shows that the performance’s most jaw-dropping moment was in fact pre-recorded.

Gaga’s shocking “leap” into the stadium, it turns out, was filmed in advance (and whenever it was filmed, Gaga most likely landed in a net just below shot).
