In his opening monologue on the Thursday, Nov. 5, episode of "Live," the late-night comedian said that after numerous Trump-backed Republican candidates lost in the recent midterm election, the president was preoccupied with the wrong thing.
Earlier that Thursday, Trump signed a proclamation to turn the Oval Office into a national monument, which Kimmel said was an effort to make sure "no future president can remove any of his crap."
The host, 58, played a clip of Trump signing the document, saying, "I'm going to be signing a document, which will make them into a landmark for the ages. It won't be able to be taken down, destroyed, touched, or anything else."
"That's right," Kimmel quipped. "His historic Diet Coke button will be preserved for many generations to come. I guess 'Tacky-o' really wants to make sure nobody lays a finger on all the beautiful new sconces and knickknacks he had spray-painted gold. He turned the Oval Office into the gift shop at the Liberace Museum."
Kimmel said the move signaled Trump was starting to make arrangements for his departure.
"Why do this now? Why do this right after the midterms?" Kimmel continued. "Maybe he's planning to leave sooner than we think?"
Kimmel calls on Trump to resign after midterms – 'Nobody wants you'Kimmel called the new Oval Office a "landmark and a skid mark" and attempted to give Trump a reality check.
"Let me tell you something, buddy: On Jan. 20, 2029, we are gonna yank that crap down and throw it out faster than Melania moves back to New York," Kimmel said to cheers from the audience.
White House mocks Kimmel's 'peanut-sized brain'
In a statement to USA TODAY, White House spokesman Davis Ingle had brutal words for Kimmel.
"Jimmy Kimmel's case of Trump Derangement Syndrome is so advanced that it has completely rotted his peanut-sized brain," Ingle wrote. "He's far more entertaining when you're laughing at him than with him, but unfortunately his real talent is his failing ratings. This statement took more braincells to write than the average Jimmy Kimmel joke."
The comments follow Kimmel's remarks the day after midterms, in which the comedian said the president should leave office.
"Resign. Quit already," he said. "Just quit. Nobody wants you. Even you don't want to be president anymore."
