‘Israel’s 9/11’: Political analysts react to deadly Hamas attack

  • Eurasia Group’s Ian Bremmer said that the “massive attacks by Hamas leadership into Israel … is no less than Israel’s 9/11.”
  • The violence has also “poured cold water on the possibility of a fast-tracked Israeli-Saudi normalization process,” said Chatham House’s Sanam Vakil.
  • “The Israeli-Hamas War is a logical result of 50 years of failed military policies,” Difference Group’s Dan Steinbock said in an e-mail to CNBC.

Hamas surprise attack a ‘historic failure’ for Israeli intelligence services

The Palestinian Islamist group Hamas launched an unprecedented attack on Israel on Saturday, firing thousands of rockets from the Gaza Strip into Israel, as dozens of fighters infiltrated the heavily fortified border in several locations by air, land and sea. The offensive caught the country completely off guard and represents a "historic failure" for Israeli intelligence services, according to Middle East expert David Khalfa.
