Lady Gaga earns sixth No. 1 album with 'Chromatica,' Jimmy Buffett takes Billboard No. 2

The pop star's sixth solo effort started at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart Sunday, selling 274,000 units, according to Billboard. It's the fifth-highest debut of the year, behind The Weeknd ("After Hours"), BTS ("Map of the Soul"), Lil Uzi Vert ("Eternal Atake"), and Eminem ("Music to Be Murdered By"). 

The well-reviewed dance album marks Gaga's sixth No. 1 on the chart, following her "A Star Is Born" soundtrack with Bradley Cooper in 2018. Last week, the Grammy winner similarly topped the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart with "Chromatica" track "Rain On Me," a therapeutic banger with Ariana Grande.

Two days after "Chromatica" was released May 29, Gaga stopped promoting the album on social media and began posting lengthy messages in support of the Black Lives Matter movement and condemning President Donald Trump. On Tuesday, the socially conscious singer also deactivated her official online store, leaving only a letter urging people to support the black community in its place.

"Chromatica" was initially slated for an April release but was delayed due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

Also on the Billboard charts, Jimmy Buffett made waves with "Life on the Flip Side," his first new album in seven years. The feel-good effort debuted at No. 2 with 75,000 units; it marks Buffett's 40th time on the Billboard 200 since 1974.
